Extremely Brown and Dried Out Plugs -Not a Premium Healthy Product as Sold

The merchant is uncooperative to correct the product- arrived in an extremely brown, dry state, far beyond what would be expected for a few days transit time. This is sold as a premium product, impossible that healthy, green grass turns near totally brown in just 3 days of shipping.
Merchant reply by John 23 hours ago While it can be very disconcerting to get brown grass, fortunately the plants vitality is in the hardy premium roots not the blades of grass. Just as a tree doesn't die when its leaves turn brown, it is the same with Zoysia grass. It is a protective mechanism that starts with the harvesting of the grass and can be accelerated in particularly hot and dry conditions in transit, as you noted. It won't be reversed until you plant the grass. Once planted in your soil and getting nutrients, given some sunlight and water, the process is reversed and the roots will start to grow. Like all things with Zoysia, this can take a bit of time as we noted in the planting instructions. Have faith, follow the water instructions and watch for new green blades of grass over the next number of weeks. All should be good.

Return customer from New Hampshire

I received 1/3 of my order yesterday via FedEx. No explanation why I didn't get the full shipment so I called Zoysia Farms and was told to expect the remainder of my order today. Likely a glitch with the shipper, no worries. Looking forward to getting the plugs planted ASAP.
Merchant reply by John 23 hours ago Glad to hear we could help with this. It is what we are here for. Planting the plugs "ASAP" is always the single best thing you can do for any plant. Happy planting!

Dry Grass

It seems to me the dirt around the roots should be at least damp and not so dry that it separates for the plug roots
Merchant reply by John 1 day ago Zoysia grass is amazingly resilient but the one thing it doesn't like is too much moisture. Better dry than wet. We field grow all the grass we sell making a very hardy product that can withstand a variety of conditions from field to your yard. You are 100% right the soil still attached to the plug is a better situation but bare root is not a problem. Getting them planted and following the watering instructions are the key to success. Thanks for your observation and the chance to reassure you Zoysia can handle the situation you described.

Poor Quality

I have thirty-four (34) super plugs from my order that have shown no sign of life. Upon receiving my order there was little to no soil (Dead on Arrival) on the plugs in the large box which contained most of the plugs. In the second box the super plugs had a nice cake like appearance with the soil fully intact. It has been over two weeks and thirty-four (34) of the plugs are not showing even a blade of grass. This is very disappointing after all the work and effort that went into planting these plugs.
Merchant reply by John 1 day ago Don't give up hope yet on those plugs. Zoysia is amazingly resilient and might surprise you yet. Plants are a bit like people and each one is unique in how quickly it will develop in your yard. Sounds like 80-90% are already doing well which is a great start. The soil has no affect on the final result. All Zoysia plugs once planted need to grow more roots and all that takes place below ground naturally. What to watch for is new green blades of grass. That tells you that the root system is working and the plant is on the way to full health. It may not appear to be much to start with but even a little is enough to tell us it is growing. Make sure to follow the watering instruction for. The one thing Zoysia doesn't want is too much water, I would suggest reread the section on watering for best success. I will note your concern on your record about the 34 plugs.

Disappointed.

Order process was fine but the plugs received were less than desirable. The plugs received were in very rough shape. I ordered 4 trays and there was at least 5 plugs per tray that didn't even have any dirt, just clumps of roots. I have ordered plugs the last few years and this was by far the worst.
Merchant reply by John 23 hours ago Thank you of your feedback. Every year and almost every order is unique, but through it all our hardy field grown Zoysia continues to prosper once planted again. The harvesting and transportation process is stressful (no food, not light and no water) particularly in the heat of summer. It can arrive looking less than its best but that has almost nothing to do with if the plant will grow successfully. All the vitality is in the root system and as long as the plugs (even without soil) are planted and start to get some nutrition from your soil along with some sunshine and water all should work out just fine. Our goal is for customers to have a beautiful Zoysia lawn at the end of the process. Might be a few bumps along the way but we are here to help and as always stand behind our product.

You shipped Zoysia on 6/10, and it arrived about 3PM on 6/13. I removed it about 4:30 the same day and it appears to be brown and hopefully not dead. I watered it right away.
Merchant reply by John 23 hours ago Great to hear you gave it some water but the key is to get the plugs planted as soon as possible. Every plant out of the ground is under stress until it can get nutrients form the surrounding soil. That combined with the sunlight and water will get the root system growing again. The harvesting process removes most of the root and takes away all a plant needs. Until it gets that again it will not grow new roots. Once it starts to do that it will send up new green blades of grass which is your sign of success. It can take a bit depending on your local conditions but it will happen if you follow the planting and watering instructions. If you have any questions give us a call at 410-756-2311 Monday to Friday 9 to 4 eastern, We are here to help you be successful.

Ordering system is strange. I wanted 25 trays. They set me up with 15 trays

Product sounds great, waiting to see what I get before I endorse anything.
Merchant reply by John 23 hours ago I had a quick look at your order and it calls to send you 25 total trays of Super Plugs. For efficiency and convenience we offer various sized packages to start with but once you get to 15 trays, you can order any quantity you want to meet your needs. It is a strange system but it kind of works for most. Grass is going out quite dry due to all the hot dry weather we have had lately but once planted and watered it will start to send up new green blades of grass. Happy planting. I can see your order on the harvesting schedule so it should leave in the next day or so.
